  • Los Angeles, City of Angels?
  • Powerful Reflection on Los Angeles and The People That Make The City Breathe
  • LAGUNA HILLS, CALIFORNIA– April 29, 1992. Riots broke out in Los Angeles after a televised verdict of the Rodney King trial. Over 50 were killed. More than were 4,000 injured and 12,000 arrested. About $1billion was lost in property damage. Civil unrest permeated in the heart of American culture.

Illumination Millennium (now available from 1stBooks Library) is a collection of five poetry chapbooks about living and growing up in Los Angeles. In it are insights into events like the L.A. Riots—events that have significantly redefined America and Southern California in recent years.
As the country’s entertainment capital, Los Angeles and the rest of Southern California have had profound influences on American culture. With its blend of different racial identities and beautiful beaches, the region’s lifestyle is one to be envied and has often been mimicked. Yet, at the
same time, an explosive brew of ethnic strife has been boiling. And at times has exploded.

In Los Angeles, Howard E. Yosha has found the inspiration and the pain to write about life, love, loss, and hypocricy in the 21 st century. His poetry, complimented masterfully by his paintings, ranges from topics like growing up and life as a worker at the Santa Ana train depot. He reflects on political issues such as the protests against Proposition 187 in 1994. The proposition, which espoused
stricter policies against illegal immigrants, would have drastically affected the California landscape
    where most immigrants reside.

Howard Yosha’s work revolves around his life in Southern California. The art and poetry included in this compilation first appeared in poetry slams and open poetry readings in the region where he is actively involved.
